On December 19, 2013, the Copyright Board of Canada released its Decision to end the existing Educational Rights Tariff, 2012-2016 (pursuant to section 66.52 of the Copyright Act (Canada)) on December 31, 2013. Further details may be found on the website of the Copyright Board of Canada:
Therefore, as of January 1, 2014, there will no longer be a tariff for the ERCC to administer, and in fact, the ERCC will begin the dissolution process. No further royalties will be collected by the ERCC from Canadian educational institutions, except those relating to 2013 or prior.
For future questions regarding the copying and use of radio and television programs in classrooms, educational institutions and rightsholders are encouraged to seek legal advice.
